Mostly I think collectors look at these movements and think about what they aren't.
When Omega was the best mass produced watch on the planet, the watches had the classic 550/560/750 serie**ovements, were renowned, beautiful, durable and successful.
Omega replaced them with the 1000/1010/1020 movements which - uh - weren't.
The 1000s were good movements, but not classic, not renowned, not beautiful, yet durable and successful. These latter two qualities are why you see so many: the didn't break and Omega sold a lot of them. I think these movements were some of the first to drop the classic Omega copper plating. To a vintage purist, they are just ugly, comparatively speaking.
As with any new movement, there were a few reliability issues with the first editions, but they were quickly cured (and don't apply to the 1012 in any case). A bigger issue is that they are often in some really ugly watches from the 1970s and early 1980s.
Short answer -- the movements are fine, reliable and plentiful, but not to many's taste, when a 550/560/750 a few years older is available.
